Modern Masters® SkimStone® NanoTech Exterior Topcoat with UV protection is a unique, water-based, polyurethane/acrylic protective topcoat, formulated to enhance the color and depth of SkimStone Decorative Finish on concrete patios, while adding durability and protection against harmful ultra-violet rays. The name “NanoTech” refers to the utilization of nano-sized particles that greatly enhance the product’s chemical and abrasion resistance without sacrificing the permeability necessary for exterior concrete surfaces.

Surface Preparation: Allow the final coat of SkimStone Decorative Finish to dry at least eight (8) hours—preferably overnight—before applying NanoTech Exterior Topcoat. Make sure that the surface is clean and free of dust and debris and completely dry. For best results, use when the temperature is between 50°F and 90°F (10°C and 32°C). Do not apply NanoTech Exterior Topcoat in direct sunlight. Apply while area is shaded or if this is not possible, tent the area with a tarp to shade the area. Application to SkimStone Decorative Floor Finish: We recommend using a Padco® Heavyweight T-bar 12-inch Floor Coater fitted with a Nylfoam® Refill for coating the main floor areas. Use a Padco® 8-inch Floor Trim Pad for cutting in. To begin, gently stir the product to ensure uniformity. DO NOT SHAKE. Shaking may cause air bubbles to form and become trapped in the dry film. Cut in the starting wall and corners using the Floor Trim Pad. Pour a continual four- (4) to five- (5) inch wide bead of NanoTech Exterior Topcoat along the length of the patio. With the Heavyweight T-bar Floor Coater, drag NanoTech Exterior Topcoat in a snow plow manner toward the opposite side of the patio. Feather out all turns and stop marks. Add NanoTech Exterior Topcoat as needed to maintain a uniform finish bead. Continue applying NanoTech Exterior Topcoat thinly, cutting in as you go until the entire surface is coated. Immediately clean the Floor Trim Pad and Nylfoam® Floor Coater Refill with warm water to prevent the bristles and fibers from sticking together. As the first coat dries, it will penetrate and begin to seal the SkimStone Decorative Finish and bring out the color and depth of the finish. Allow the film to completely dry before applying the second coat, typically one (1) hour. NOTE: Colder temperatures and/or higher humidity levels will extent the dry time. For best results we recommend using three (3) coats of NanoTech Exterior Topcoat. NOTE: It is imperative that SkimStone be allowed to breathe when applied outdoors. This will prevent moisture from being trapped under the top coat.

Care and Maintenance: Allow at least 24 hours of dry time before permitting light foot traffic or placing outdoor furniture in NanoTech Exterior Topcoat. Maximum hardness of NanoTech Exterior Topcoat will be achieved in three (3) to four (4) days. Use the area with care during this period. Do not cover with rugs and avoid sliding furniture across the surface. Avoid contact with water. Wipe up spills with a damp rag. Maintain surface by regular sweeping. Clean sealed surface with mild cleaner as needed.

Clean Up: Clean tools and equipment with warm, soapy water immediately after use. Promptly wipe up spills and spatters with a damp cloth.
