MODERN MASTERS 92316 DP-607 EXTENDER FOR LATEX PAINT SIZE:QUART.

MODERN MASTERS 92316 DP-607 EXTENDER FOR LATEX PAINT SIZE:QUART.

MODERN MASTERS® EXTENDER is a transparent, water based additive that turns ordinary latex paint into a professional grade, decorative glaze with exceptional clarity and long working time. It is perfect for both positive and negative painting techniques on large surfaces such as walls and ceilings.

SURFACE PREPARATION:
To prepare the surface for glazing, first paint the surface with a satin-sheen latex paint or a primer/sealer (we recommend Zinsser’s Bulls Eye® 1-2-3 or B-I-N primer/sealer) in the color of your choice. Allow the surface to fully cure following the paint manufacturer’s directions.
Mixing:
Modern Masters® recommends a starting ratio of 4 parts of Extender to 1 part of low-sheen paint. Simply choose a quart of the desired color of low-sheen paint and pour it directly into the Extender container. The unique 5-quart (4.73 liter) container allows for the addition of up to 1 quart/946 ml of latex paint. Stir until thoroughly mixed.Note: To increase the transparency of the glaze or if additional working time is desired (i.e.: working in hot, dry conditions), use a mixing ratio of 6 to 1 (add 22 fluid ounces/650ml of latex paint to one gallon/3.78 liter of Extender) or 8 to 1 (add only 16 fluid ounces/473ml of latex paint to one gallon/3.78 liter of Extender). NOTE: DO NOT TINT EXTENDER WITH UNIVERSAL COLORANTS.

APPLICATION:
Roll the mixture onto the satin-sheen painted surface, covering an area of approximately 4 feet by 4 feet square (1.2 meter by 1.2 meter square). Keep the edge of the section very thick and wet to avoid lap marks. Create the desired effect on the surface. Do not manipulate the wet edge; work up to one inch (25 mm) away from the edge. Continue the process by rolling onto the next section, joining the two sections together. Manipulate the joining area immediately, moving along to create another 4 feet by 4 feet square (1.2 meter by 1.2 meter square) section. Again, do not manipulate the leading wet edge. Continue in this manner until the entire surface is completed. Always prepare a sample prior to beginning a project to test your color and technique.

POPULAR EFFECTS AND TECHNIQUES INCLUDE:
Frottage: Press wrinkled Kraft Paper (scrunch up and smooth out to create wrinkles) onto the wet glazed surface. Lightly smooth paper with the side of your hand or use a wallpaper smoother. Remove the paper. Hint: Do not use newspaper as the ink from the paper may transfer to the painted surface. Be careful not to press your hand flat onto the Kraft Paper, as it will produce handprints. Do not reuse wet Kraft Paper, let it dry first or use a clean sheet.
Ragging: Dampen a cotton rag. Dab the rag over the wet glazed surface, removing the glaze as you go. Hint: Make sure the seams are not showing on the rag.
Dragging: Pull a stiff brush (such as a dragger or a wallpaper brush) through the wet glaze from top to bottom in a straight line. Hint: Wipe the glaze mixture from the brush with a clean rag before moving to the next section.
Sponging: Dampen a sea sponge. Dab the sponge over the wet glazed surface, removing the glaze as you go. Hint: Frequently rinse the built up glaze from the sponge.
Colorwashing: Two or more colors of glaze should be used in “Application”. Then using a large paint brush or cotton rag, brush or wipe the wet glazed surface in a crosshatch motion until most of the glaze is removed and the colors are blended.

Dry Time:
When mixed 4 to 1 with flat latex interior paint, dry-to-touch is approximately 12 to 18 hours; full cure is in approximately 3 to 4 days. Thicker films, lower temperature (below 70°F/21°C), and higher humidity (above 50% RH) may prolong drying times.

Protection:
Do not clean the finished surface with harsh chemicals; use a mild soap and warm water. If added protection is needed, cover the fully cured painted surface with Modern Masters® Satin Varnish or Modern Masters® Dead Flat Varnish.

Coverage:
Approximately 650 to 850 square feet per gallon (60 to 79 square meters per 3.78 liters) when mixed with 1 quart/946 ml of latex paint.

Clean Up:
Clean tools, brushes, and equipment with warm, soapy water immediately after use. Promptly wipe up spills and splatters with a damp cloth.
